Mickey is the epitome of a Naval Officer.  Accepted straight into Naval Flight College after high school, he graduated with honors, and was assigned to the [[setting:DNS Raven]]. In 2513, the Raven was boarded by pirates during a customs patrol in the [[setting:Phiwha]] system, forcing the crew to repel the boarders in hand-to-hand combat.  Mickey fought gallantly, though wounded, and was later awarded the Directorate Starbust for Heroism. He still proudly bears a scar on his left cheek as a reminder of that battle. 

Mickey served aboard the Raven for another two years, and then transferred to the [[setting:DNS Ivellious]]. In 2516, while on an anti-piracy patrol out of [[setting:Drispa]], the Ivellious boarded and captured a pirate ship known as the Red Goblin. During the round up of the crew, Mickey was surprised to find one of the pirates was a former crewmate from the Raven, [[Dialla Wane]]. Suddenly the ambush of the Raven made sense.  Unfortunately, Wane escaped custody shortly after he was transferred off the Ivellious.

Three years later, the Ivellious was part of a failed raid on an abandoned pirate base where it was suspected Wane and others of his crew were hiding out. As a result of his actions in that raid, Mickey was awarded another Starburst, and transferred to Naval Intelligence to assist with the investigation into moles within the Directorate Navy.
